Fillmore, Parker Czechoslovak Fairy Tales New York Harcourt, Brace 1919 Cloth Good No Jacket Ex-Library, Hardcover Matulka, Jan Ex-library book with usual book card sleeve, marks and stamps, and because of the era, handwritten library notations. Binding is somewhat loose but other than the end paper library notations the book is clean. This copy was presented to the Colorado Springs Public Library in June 1922 by the fund given by the Boys of St. Stephens School (annotated in ink on ffep); What makes this book special, besides the retelling of these wonderful tales and their commonality with folk tales of other countries, are the black and white illustrations and as they are called in the book, "decorations," illustrating the tales throughout. The book features four full page black and white illustrations within stories and 16 "decorations" which are actually 2 1/2 by 3 inch black and white illustrations between stories. The frontispiece (onion-skin protected) is a glorious color painting featuring girls in native dress and a peacock. the binding, although suffering from the ravages of library use, has another fine sketch of a native horseman in elaborate dressage. 344 pages.
